Soil Macrofauna Disperse and Reconstruct Soil Nematode Communities: Takeaways from a Microcosm Study

چکیده
Soil macrofauna is an important component of soil biodiversity and plays a key role in ecosystem function. Little work, however, has explored how may contribute, directly or indirectly, to microfauna communities. In this study, we the impact two classes common macrofauna, earthworms (Eisenia foetida) millipedes (Spirobolus walkeri), on nematode community diversity structure. We found that play maintaining communities increasing nutrients. Both act as hosts for nematodes, valuable dispersing distributing these throughout landscape. tested efficacy strategy multiple layers layer does not have significant influence community. These results suggest abundance, diversity, structure are tightly linked existence which contribute maintenance mechanism forest biodiversity.

Microcosm enrichment of 1,3-dichloropropene-degrading soil microbial communities in a compost-amended soil.
AIMS A microcosm-enrichment approach was used to investigate bacterial populations that may represent 1,3-dichloropropene (1,3-D)-degrading micro-organisms in compost-amended soil. METHODS AND RESULTS After 8 weeks of incubation, with repeated application of 1,3-D, volatilization fluxes were much lower for compost-amended soil (CM) than with the unamended soils, indicating accelerated degrada...
متن کاملAbiotic Soil Factors and Plant-parasitic Nematode Communities.
A natural community of plant-parasitic nematodes is usually polyspecific. The host plant is the most important driving force in nematode populations, but abiotic factors are important in maintaining the steady state. Nematode communities often separate by abiotic soil factors. In any continuous habitat, including crop plants, generally there is a consistency of the most abundant species, which ...
متن کاملEffect of soil disturbance and biocides on nematode communities and extracellular enzyme activity in soybean cyst nematode suppressive soil
Soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines, remains a major yield-limiting pathogen of soybean. Natural suppression of SCN exists and becomes increasingly attractive; however, ecological mechanisms leading to the suppressive state are rarely studied. A glasshouse experiment was performed to determine the effects of soil disturbance and biocides on nematode community and extracellular enzy...
متن کاملSoil nematode communities are ecologically more mature beneath late- than early-successional stage biological soil crusts
Biological soil crusts are key mediators of carbon and nitrogen inputs for arid land soils and often represent a dominant portion of the soil surface cover in arid lands. Free-living soil nematode communities reflect their environment and have been used as biological indicators of soil condition. In this study, we test the hypothesis that nematode communities are successionally more mature bene...
